Abstract
The BBNJ Agreement (often called the High Seas Treaty) is a legally binding framework under UNCLOS designed to conserve and sustainably manage marine biodiversity in the high seas and deep seabed. It establishes international rules for creating marine protected areas, conducting environmental impact assessments, and ensuring the equitable sharing of marine genetic resources and technology.
