Moving from Words to Action – Innovative Collaborative Partnerships to Combat IUU Fishing
The IMCS Network, in partnership with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, will host the 7th GFETW in Halifax, Nova Scotia from 31 July to 04 August 2023. The Workshop will be held at the Halifax Convention Centre over five days and will cover several themes including Collaboration and Partnerships, Technology to Support MCS, Risk Assessment and Analysis and Transparency.
The Workshop will bring together the global fisheries MCS, compliance and enforcement community to exchange information, share ideas and lessons learned and discuss new and emerging fisheries compliance strategies and tools. The Workshop is the only global event of its type and provides a unique opportunity for those working at the forefront of fisheries MCS, compliance and enforcement and those that support these efforts to connect. This will be the first in-person Workshop in almost four years we are excited to welcome Network members, observers, partners and the wider fisheries management and MCS community. We look forward to sharing experiences and lessons learned, to learning about new and emerging MCS approaches and what the key issues are for our members. The Workshop serves as a key forum to promote communication, cooperation and information sharing across our community and we encourage all with an interest to register.
The GFETW is a training workshop. The interactive discussions are structured to support the improved understanding of new and emerging approaches to fisheries compliance and MCS and to identify opportunities to apply these approaches to different contexts. The Workshop also includes closed sessions that support the capacity development of our community. These sessions are limited to MCS practitioners and provide the opportunity for our community to learn from each other, discuss the application of new tools and technology and to learn new fisheries compliance and MCS approaches.
The Workshop includes the presentation of the Stop IUU Fishing Award. The Award was established to recognise successful initiatives in fisheries MCS, compliance and enforcement. This year, the Network invites submissions from across the across the MCS, compliance and enforcement community.
