Abstract
This thesis employs three approaches to identify and evaluate the drivers of illegal and unreported fishing worldwide. The thesis shows that illegal fishing thrives in regions where penalties are weak and is one of the main impediments to sustainable management of fish stocks in many jurisdictions.
